1.2 Visa & Forms Guatemala

Visa exempt for stays of up to 90 days*. The traveler must:

  •     Hold a valid passport for six months after the departure date
  •     Keep proof of sufficient funds
  •     Have proof of onward / return flights
  •     Have all the documents you need for your next destination ready
  •     Check the latest vaccination requirements at: http://www.safetravel.ch/

 

* be carefull if you want to travel to Honduras or back again. Honduras and Guatemala stays in partnership so you have just 90 days in both together!

 

1.2.1 Forms

All travellers who enter or exit Guatemala has to fill out the following form before you enter (TIP: Do it before you fly!). You will receive a QR-Code after you filled out the form. You have to show the QR-Code to the boardercontrol.

Compared to Mexico, Guatemala is a little bit more expensive in food and a lot more expensive in terms of electronics.

 

Best Bakery

San Martin - This bakery has the best bread, hot chocolate, sweet desserts and cofee.

Milk

 

The best milk of Guatemala, Coronado Entera. (12Q/l)

Don`t buy fresh pasteurizade milk, it gets worse after a day.

 

Cheese

A good sharp & crumbly cheese ist the "Vintage"-cheese from Mainland (New Zealand), it smells like a swiss-cheese (Gruyere or Appenzeller). You will find this cheese in the supermarket "paiz". 50Q/250g

Pollo Campero

It's a chain of restaurantsbin Guatemala and sells food like KFC. All about chicken, fried or grilled.

3.2 Transportation Guatemala

At the airport

There are several options from the airport to the city. However, if you arrive without internet, these are limited to two options.

Option 1: Taxi to town 80Q costs around € 8. No money, no problem. Since it is not always possible to organize money at the airport, the taxi drivers are also ready to approve a stop at an ATM on the way to the hotel (no extra charge).

Option 2: take the bus. The only question is where are these going? It costs nothing to ask!

Buses in Guatemala

Alamo (The worst) - This buses drives directly to Quetzaltenango. Guatemala city to Quetzaltenango (Xela), 4h ride for 90 Q. >Karte<

It`s permitted to drink and eat in the buses!

 

 

XELABUS - These buses departs 10 meters next to the Alamo busstation and are more comfortable. Price: 100Q

- From Quetzaltenango 2pm

San Cristobal - This bus is the cheapest of al the buses who drives between Guatemala city and Quetzaltenango.

- Price 60Q

- From Quetzaltenango 2:00am / 2:45pm
